Snowy Evening in Highland Park
When I saw this painting, it immediately reminded me a forgotten memory of my childhood, when I was growing up, we lived in a very small mountainous town. My grandmother used to take us caroling, it was always snowing and the snow was usually deep, and very cold, but it was the best time I had as a child. Thank you for the wonderful painting.

Can you help me paint?
Hello Alanna,
I went through your galleries and I find your originality and freedom and imagination hugely inspiring. Truly beautiful work. I can relate because I am an artist also. I haven't done as many works as you have, but trying to improve everyday. I am looking for new outlets everyday, but as an artist it is very difficult indeed. I am thinking of moving to the USA, but that would take another year or so.
Alanna, would you be able to let me in on how I could sell some of my work to speed up the process? I ask this because I noticed a comment to the effect of 'thank you for letting me paint at this website.' do you display work of other artists? Anyway, it's just a question.
Your work is beautiful and as an artist there's no better tool than imagination apart from the way the eye looks. that is evident in your work.
Keep it up.
Michelle.

reminiscing
Am especially fond of your playful paintings. They keep me reminiscing of a childhood friendship filled with joy,( barbies, bunkbeds, and ballerinas too.) Have been in awe (and a little envious) of your talent for about 35 years. No surprise to me that your work is sought after by so many. Love Lorene

The Pony
Hello Alanna! Just discovered your paintings and I am just blown away with them. I have a granddaughter and believe some of your paintings are perfect for her room in my home. I am a wildlife lover and animal lover and have had ponies and dogs and many cats and actually have wildlife that hang around my home here in Maine. I have deer that sleep under my trees and stay close to the house. I have a moose that comes around several times a year. But I just want to let you know how captivated I am to your work. The Pony I will be looking for to hang on my wall. Also the leaping cat for my daughter. How can I just pick one when you have so many I want to hang on my walls and walk from room to room and feel my spirits lifted.

We seem alike ( HAVE NEVER BEEN GOOD AT FOLLOWING THE RULES IF THEY DO NOT MAKESENSE TO ME )and we share the same first name ( I added my second n at 7 years old ) I am an inspirational artist based mainly on my emotional state at the time .Acrylics mostly and I never quite know until I am finished what it will look like but I always feel incredibly release and satifaction most of my paintings are framed throughout my home. Your Art work is incredible I am curious about the butterfly theme my latest addition to my family Saorsa ( gaelic for freedom ) is crazy about butterflys ( who could blame her ) In gaelic our names mean" O Child or darling child blessed one"Take care Alanna

Browsing while I looked for info on peacocks, I stumbled into your website. I am a watercolorist, some of my artist friends say my strength lies in illustration. I was just blown away by your subject matter, drawing ability, and your lovely use of my favorite medium. I was curious about the paper you use. i am used to what happens with Arches 140lb cold pressed, but wondered if you use hot press for your graphite/watercolor to get the intracacies (sp)? of your designs. I really love your work! Go gettum!!!! Judi

family bed
I saw your painting "the Family Bed" on display at an exhibit at the DaVinci centre at least 5 years ago and am still kicking myself for not purchasing it when I had the chance. I have four children ranging in age from 8 mos. to 7 years and most nights, my husband and I have at least the 2 youngest sleeping with us. By morning, the girls have usually joined us as well. The spirit of your painting captures that of my life, a part that I know is short-lived and very special to me. I have mentioned to my husband many times that, given another chance, I would purchase your painting in a second. If it is available, even as a print, I would be thrilled to own it.
I absolutely love your work. You help to keep northern ontario on the artistic map. Thanks...

Now this is what I was looking for!!!
Hi Alanna!
I used to live at 1117 O'Brien St. and I remember you from when I was about 10 years old and Kendra had lessons with you. I live in Dryden now and I have an assignment in art class to do. We have to research an artist and their work and take our favourite piece that they have done and paint it onto a face of a clock. I chose you as my favourite artist. You use so many different colours and it catches my eye. Our class went to the art gallery in Winnipeg and I didn't like it. All the art was so boring and I just couldn't get into it, but your work, now that's what I was looking for!!!

Favourite Tree
Hello Again....
Once again, the Favourite Tree while intrigues it me, the face
disturbs me so much so, that I am unable to really aprreciate the painting. In Falling Leaves, the dancing leaves and the swirling skirt ...autmun at its finest!!! But the face is so sad [at least for me]. To me autumn is one of the most wonderful seasons...the rustle of leaves, their crisp crunchiness underfoot, the last of summer's sighs released in a flurry of rustling leaves!!!! But that face [again] is so plain...so emotionless....again..the face forces me to look away from your painting. But the theme is great.....

Have you written a poem to go with your painting? I was sitting tonight thinking about the dead bees I pull from my pool. I try to save as many as I can, but quite a few don't make it. I am a poet and was thinking of writing a poem "Requiem for a Bee". I love your painting.

Your work
Dear Alanna,
I was delighted as I browsed through each and everyone of your galleries, looking at each work was a pleasure to my eyes, and an inspiration, as I am also a painter, studying at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto.
I was extremely drawn to your wonderful use of color, and the sense of playfulness no matter the subject, throughout each one of your pieces.
I was curious to know if all of the paintings were water color?
I've enjoyed viewing your work and look forward to seeing future paintings.
Sincerely,

Beautiful thoughts & work
I was looking for examples of "apples" to paint on some wine goblets for my daughter and came upon your web site. I was mesmerized. Your work is uplifting, it has a dream-like quality about it, almost hynotizing. And, your comments about your feelings, add to the almost spiritual, mystical lightness of your paintings. I will definitely remember your name and look for your work.

This was my favourite painting, or maybe I just loved the story it so beautifully illustrates. Either way you have a wondeful way with colour and style that is so vivid and yet dream-like at the same time - like your works are photographs of dreams.
You have a lovely talent and it brightened up my night.

it's great!
Hello Alanna,
I just thought that I would let you know that I think the addition of the postcards to your website is great. I have been sending them to everyone. I love to come and look at all of your work, it makes me feel like I am sitting upstairs at your place, drinking hot tea and just glancing around, seeing all of your amazing work either in progress or being displayed. I have my own mini Alanna gallery started in my room here, which also makes me feel at home. I miss going to classes with you, I really never realized how much they helped me relax and just take a time out. I hope that all of your shows are going well, along with everything else also. I miss you lots, hopefully I will see you at Christmas!!
Lots of Hugs,
Love Beth

Hi there,
I have set your painting as my desktop wallpaper! I am a part-time artist (not painting though). Your style (this piece in particular) is a lot like mine only I use color pencil to simulate oils. Yours is the real talent! The ability to control the colors with such precision and grace is remarkable.
Be well,

Wow Awesome Website
Hi Alanna
What a great website. I can see that each page was carefully designed and does an excellent job of displaying your work. Thanks for the great thank-you note. It was truly a pleasure to be able to play music for your art showing at Magnus Theatre. I am totally taken with your art and I am very impressed that you enjoy mine. Whenever you are in town check the things to do section of the paper(it will usually let you know if I am playing music somewhere in town). I'd love to see you again. Once again Thanks so very much.

Long ago I had the pleasure of caring for you and your siblings when your parents went out. I loved to read to you all and now my daughter is old enough to look after wee ones. I hope she has the opportunity to care for one who has gone on in life and developed as awesome a talent as you have with your painting. I came across your web site while trying to access the Atikokan Newspaper for a death notification. What a pleasure it has been to have the opportunity to browse through the site and discover the beauty of your works. Sharon Radigan nee Cossitt

Beautiful Web Site
What an amazing discovery at 2:30 in the morning when I couldn't sleep! I saw your name on the Atikokan site and had to check it out. I knew your family when I lived in Atikokan. One of my daughters took lessons from you some years ago when you were just getting started. We loved your work then and you were an encouragement to her to keep on with her artwork. A couple of years ago Judy had her own art show in Korea. I just scrolled through your entire gallery - love your playfulness. I plan to show this site to Judy when she is here this weekend and know she will enjoy it too.
All the best, Laura

Pleasure to my eyes
Alanna,
I have just arrived in Atikokan and was so pleased to see your name once the computer screen lit up! Your talent has always entranced me and now you can show it to the world. It was so exciting to experience your new masterpieces and of course reunite with the old. Your painting "Sisters" brought back many fond memories of you, you're studio, and the feelings of warmth and love that painting always represented to me. I do love you and want to thank you very much for the pleasure to my eyes.
Love, Carrie

Alanna,
I don't know if you remember me but I know you remember my sister Pam. Your painting "Snowy Evening in Highland Park" brought back so many memories. In my case we went sliding at the other end of Highland Park road but it was the same situation with the snow falling and the stars above. Thanks for the wonderful reminder.
With fond memories,

The Owl Feather Canoe
Dear Alanna:
Have literally 'stumbled' onto your web-site after visiting Rodney Brown's and downloading/printing your colouring book.
Wow, girl, this is great, wonderful, awesome. Have been an admiring 'fan' for some time but mostly from afar. Have seen your work in different settings and this web-site thing is nothing less than fantastic!
You are one gifted lady, ias s the 'Fleur', and, of course, Joseph but I truly had no idea of the scope and magnitude of your talents! Astounding!
Visited all of the available galleries and had great difficulty choosing a fave but have ended up with 'The Owl Feather Canoe' as my 'wallpaper' of choice. Knowing me, I'll likely change it every other week! Hah!
Anyway, just thought I'd give you some well deserved praise both on the offerings of your 'licious artwork and on the web-site, itself. Just out of curiosity, do you write at all? Like creative writing and such? Journalling? You, also, have a gift(s) there. Your ability to doubly express is a refreshing, enchanting combination: something that you don't often get in the gallery setting. Bonus, for us!
Please pass along a hearty 'Hello' to your Mother and Clan, I use to live in the same building as she on Victoria Ave., the ole Roy Building.
If I had any money I'd being going gaga over which ten or twelve I might be able tonarrow it down to! But, alas, I'm a bum. Too bad for us both! When I win the 649 which I never buy tickets for, I'll be banging on your door with a Brinks!
Until then, keep up the fine work and I wish you and yours all the best, especially in this, what I understand, is a relatively recent addition to efforts in getting and keeping Alanna out to the waiting world.
Please tell your Mother that she and the Clan are, often, in my thoughts and prayers even though we've fallen out of touch. She's a jewel but, then, you're already quite aware of that.
Peace.
Ciao for now,
Best regards,
Craig Davis

The Owl Feather Canoe
Dear Alanna,
I cannot explain why it has taken me so long to log onto your site. I find myself avoiding the computer for vast stretches of time, missing emails etc. Finally, with a renewed surge of enegy and desire I am back at the key pad and happy to be.
It's amazing to me how present you feel when I look at your site. You're suddenly next door. Your voice is clear in my ears. You've done a wonderful job and have succeeded enormously if your intent was to create an intimate and personal forum in which to display your work and insights.
The detail of your work amazes me . Your sense of color and movement leads the eye from one area of the painting to the next in a deft and beautiful manner. I particularly liked Mother And Daughter, African Violets, Red Roses, The pony.
I'm very proud of you and all you've acclomplished. I'm writing you soon in response to your last letter. All my love Clea.

Dear Alanna,Your paintings are a gift, shared so freely with all who care to see, and have computers. I got my first one three years ago, when I was 50, and I am still amazed. The story of your life is so wonderful and inspiring. How perfectly matched mother and child, for you to have chosen a mother who would know just how to nurture your gifts as well as the more obvious needs. And a sensitive child who is living in a couple of different realms - at least - and trying to mainly function in her local neighborhood. So you have learned to transmute personal pain into exquisite beauty and I for one, who is an artist who lives with a painful chronic illness, really appreciate the reminder of just how special each one of us is - anyway, and maybe, most especially because of. May the winds of fortune always be at your back...I think this means may God Always Bless You...Sincerely, Faye-Merrill Geller

Having just discovered your excellent website, I am saving many of the pieces as pictures to display on my desktop. If so where might I buy some? I am afraid I could not afford to buy the original piece. Thanks.

The Fan
Hi Alanna,
Eleanor, Sheena and I are browsing your amazing website and admiring your elaborate work. My son who is going into grade 10 art was inspired to show his aunts his grade 9 art accomplishments.
We just spent the weekend in Banff with all "The Sisters" - including Monica, Andrea and Heather. Unfortunately, Philip's wife Wai, was unable to make it.
We also all admired the little card sent to Monica.
Sheena was absolutely stunned with "Backstage".
Eleanor beamed whenever a print came up that hangs in her home.
We'll be showing off your website to all our friends.
Take care
Mary

Alanna, I met you at the theatre on October 10 - I was with Ruth McKenzie. I'm not an artist but love your work - I buy a very few paintings & can only do so when I know I HAVE to have something I have seen, & I have to have one of yours! I will phone Magnus & find out when I can come and view your work again before you whisk it away to Atikokan. Naively, I thought your website would show all the same pictures. I really enjoyed reading of your life & would like to know more about it. Margaret Reeves.

I love painting(s)
Hello Alanna,
You don't know me, but you know my daughter: Helena Oosthoek; a few months ago she also lived in Atikokan at Birch Road and we(my husband and me) visited her and her family.
Helena sent me your website and I will say to you that I love your paintings very much; as a fact last year I bought a card of one of your paintings in the bookshop!
I'm also painting myself, but only as a amateur, I never went to an art school, although I have got lessons. For instance I painted my 4 grandsons and they recognize themselves, for me that's a compliment.
I'm living in Holland, in Europe; in some more than 2 weeks we will fly to Canada again, to Golden, where Helena and family will live from the 5th of October. Yes, they're moving again, for the second time this year.
I wish you all the best and a lot of luck with your work.

Dear Alanna,Your work is thoughtful, provocative, and amazingly detailed -- qualities I admire in any artistic endeavour. The web site is very professional and easy to navigate. I promised myself that if I ever win a lottery, I am going "shopping" at Alanna's website! I'm so happy to see your talent showcased here as I have long admired your work from afar. Congratulations Alanna on completing this beautiful web site!
You know I love your work and I have had a great time cruising through the site.I can tell you have put a ton of work into it.
For anyone who hasn't seen your work before I would tell them that "in person" the colours are even richer than the screen allows. The gold leaf adds a dimension of richness that doesn't show here. So if they like it here, it's even better in real life!
Congratulations once again. Sally B.

Amazing work with the powers of imagination and emotions. How about the one you did of the church steeple in San Blas? Just for laughs, can you express your espanol skills ordering porridge my breakfast in any of works of art,,to me that was because I would have starved in San Blas if it wasn't for you.
I just had a good laugh,I have a vision of you praying on the side of the mountain.I guess, your prayers weren't answered cause nothing much happened.LOL

Just a friendly Hello
Hi Alanna, thanks for the great notecard that now has a spot on my daughters bulletin board. Your work is great. I have Playing with Bubbles in my bathroom and My best friend Eileen Kelos presented me with one of your pieces. The piece I would be interested in would be the Family Bed . I viewed this piece at chapters. I was wondering if you could personalize this with the haircolours of my family. Also My Brother is getting married in May and is there a piece you could recommend with the theme of love. Thanks Ann Marie
